Is that all you ever want to be????

I was talking to a neighbor a few weeks ago,said some things maybe I shouldn't have, but first some history.........
She has moved to her mothers house from another state, which is only a small two bedroom duplex with one bathroom, bringing with her, her illegitimate mixed race child and it's father, bringing the total number in the household to six.

They had no money, no car, no job prospects, no bed for the child or clothing. Almost immediatly they began to ask us for food or where to get a car seat or a bed....etc.... I knew better to try to help. They would expect me to help them out everyday....I know i know mean ass right.

So as time has gone by I have asked the young woman who is now pregnant AGAIN, still with no job and no means other than a food stamp card and medicaid to take care of the kids, Is this all you ever want to be??? She had a look on her face and asked "what do you mean ?" I went into a flag waving rant that I think confused the poor girl. "This is AMERICA GIRL, you can be anything you want to be" "Is all you ever want to be is a deadbeat who lives off the government, refuses to work, dropped out of school and never seems to want to do anything else?" Don't you want to be more or do more? You won't even keep your house clean and provide a clean and sanitary place for your kids. "Do you expect people like me who has gone to college 4 times and has worked all my life to keep your lazy ass up??? ""Who is your role model in your life?" she answers, "her mother". I laughed..... Her mother sits on her ass in this little apartment, no job, does nothing, the house is nasty and they have been living months with out HOT water. They boil water to take a bath and this is your role model?????? WTF...They openly admit to being behind on all their bills including their rent. How can you be so proud of this? Or are you wanting someone to feel sorry for you and offer help??? Thats probably it...
SO, Is this all you want your kids to be? You seem to be following in your role models shoes and you will never be anything unless YOU make the move to better yourself. Since the first conversation the baby daddy has gotten a job making about $200 a week which is a good thing right??? NOPE he openly admits to spending his money on POT and cigaretts and they still ask for food and money.

What is wrong with people??? The mother has used anyone who was dumb enough to help her. She owes another friend over $1000 dollars, she tried to do things for her like got her a cell phone on her account, which she never paid a bill and that ruined her credit, then got her camera out of hock not once but twice. She finally gave up and stopped coming around. This same mother talked her 18 year old son into opening a checking account up in his name, because they can't have a checking account in their name, and let them have the check book and debit card...now the 18 year old kid owes the bank about $2000 and has ruined his opportunity to ever have a checking accout again, not to mention this goes on your credit file. Its a fantastic start at 18. How do these people sleep at night knowing they have used everyone? Is it just okay in their minds??

I just can't understand these people. Why are they satisfied with just how it is? Why don't they want to do better and especailly for their kids? I just have a hard time with this.....

What is going on in the united states when this is all you want to be???? WE have the best opportunities to get an education, sometimes for free, so why would you not want to go? Work everyday and provide a nice house for your kids to grow up in. Be a real role model for your kids and hold them accountable to be a productive asset to the world !!!!
