"NEW" gun permit in rural GA

I was reading my local paper this morning (links to follow) and I came across a story from my home town of Commerce, GA, which is about 65 NE of Atlanta for those that don't know. It seems that the town is eat up with squirrels and the city council and Police chief John Gaissert have came up with a solution.

They are going to issue a special gun permit (pest-eradication licenses) that allows you to use low-power weapons, such as a shot gun with bird-shot or pellet guns. The usual background check does apply however and a fee of $20 just for the application. The prospective permit holder will also have to sit down with the police chief and discuss what weapon of choice they will want to use.

"This permit is narrowly defined to allow people to eliminate the pests that are damaging their "property," Gaissert added. "They would have to come in and talk with us about what kind of weapon they want to use and the type of pest that needs to be destroyed."

Now isn't this a kicker..... when so many folks want to outlaw all guns, one old, rural community is encouraging the community to use em....
I love it !!!!!!!

That's pretty kool. I think they see a way to raise a little revenue too by charging a fee for the permits. But kool none the less.
