It seems from my experince that in the south, especially, that church going is a great tradition. However, in the story that I have quoted here you will find out just how serious some of these people in the Athens area are about going to church!!!!

Beau nearly run over for skipping church
Athens Banner-Herald Story updated at 11:24 pm on 2/23/2009A woman tried to run down her boyfriend with a car Sunday morning after she accused him of wanting to skip church so he could be with another woman, Athens-Clarke police said.
Annie Knox, 19, drove straight at her boyfriend in the parking lot of their home in 100 block of Carriage Court, and the man jumped on the hood of a parked car to avoid getting hit, police said.
Knox then drove over grass and onto a sidewalk as she continued to follow the man, according to police. Knox, 19, was charged with aggravated assault, police said
